Slot RTP and Volatility, Explained
Two numbers describe a slot, and each means something different. RTP (return to player) is the long-run average a game returns - say 96%. Volatility (or variance) is how that return shows up: as small frequent wins, or rare big ones. Browse titles by feel over on the Slots page.
How to read RTP
RTP is a long-run average across millions of spins, not a promise for tonight. A 96% game does not return 96% of tonight's deposit - it simply tilts the long-run maths slightly less against you than a 94% one.
How to read volatility
This is the number that shapes your session. A low-volatility reel such as Money Coming pays little and often; a high-volatility one such as Treasures of Aztec can go quiet then unload a big free-spin round. Match volatility to your budget and patience, not RTP alone.
Does a higher RTP always win out?
It is a small edge over the long run, but volatility matters more for how a single session actually feels. Use the two together.
Which volatility suits a small budget?
Low-to-medium - small frequent wins stretch a modest bankroll further than waiting on rare high-volatility payouts.
